Thirty years of doing the whole job. I've run operations for a 300-person staff, shot and cut video professionally for two decades, reported for newspapers, written comedy for national radio — and since 2024 I've been designing software and directing AI agents to build and run it. I decide what gets built and why. I've spent a career being both the person who makes the thing and the person who runs the equipment.
Experience
Independent — AI Product Design & Operations
2024 – presentWest Hollywood, California
- Design, direct and operate ten live web products on a single self-administered Linux server — architecture, product decisions, content, deployment and uptime.
- Work is AI-directed rather than hand-coded: I specify the system, drive coding agents to build it, and own the result. Comfortable in HTML; my skill is decomposition, specification and review, not writing the code.
- Shipped real commerce — Stripe and Square checkout, Printful print-on-demand fulfilment, Supabase/Postgres with row-level security, transactional email.
- Built an autonomous nightly maintenance agent that monitors the fleet, repairs common faults, and rolls back its own bad deployments.
- Operate the whole stack: nginx, PM2, TLS, DNS, off-site backups, error monitoring, and uptime alerting.
Operations & Staff Manager
2017 – 2026Year-round aquatics and lifeguard services company — national, concentrated in Southern California
- Took shift coverage from roughly 60% to 100% while the company was growing — the operational problem the job existed to solve.
- Hired, trained and scheduled a staff of roughly 300 at peak, across every site the company ran.
- Joined a seasonal, Southern-California operation; left it year-round with national reach. Year-round clients went from none to three, across 11 locations.
- Landed a YMCA contract, one of the company's significant accounts.
- Solely responsible for migrating the company off its previous scheduling system onto Connecteam — a substantial efficiency gain, and still what the company runs on today.
- Produced a year of weekly AI-generated marketing imagery for the company's social channels in 2023–24, well before that was common practice.
- Held American Red Cross instructor-level credentials; ran in-service training and certification.
- Carried day-to-day operations through extended absences of both owners.
